"We were married in 1968, during the Vietnam war, assassinations- RFK, MLK, political uprisings. But we didn’t care, we had good jobs. Pat with General Telephone (Verizon) and me at a defense plant (General Dynamics)
We bought our first house in 1969 for $17,200, then, I immediately got laid off. We had our kids, ’71, ’73. I worked as a mechanic while Pat quit work to raise the kids. We didn’t have much money, but we didn’t know that. We managed to do what ever we felt.
We did some sailing for a few years, learned photography, I teamed with a Trans-Am as well as Formula 5000 thru the seventies, then worked the dirt with IMCA Modifieds in the nineties. Pat learned how to paint with watercolors.
I worked for a landscape company in the late 70’s, then somehow or other ended up owning the company. Did OK during the mid 80’s, then the IRS bought me out.
We moved to Arizona in 1986 and I worked as a mechanic again. The guy I worked for wanted to return to the holy land (Arkansas) and sold me the business. With much trepidation, anxiety and reluctance, we took it on. Long story short, we did very well.
Our reward was a life at Arrowhead and its community of wonderful and amazing people."
